X2 is a pre-professional contemporary dance company under the direction of Associate Director and Pure Existence dancer, Megan Scheppelman. The program is designed for young adults (grades 9 - 12) who are interested in pursuing a career in dance. X2 allows selected dancers to be part of a nonprofit organization that offers professional opportunities that help build rapport in the dance community and prepare for a career after high school. Through the program, dancers will have the opportunity for one-on-one mentorship, to learn about choreography and pedagogy, present their own work, teach young students, build their resume, work with master instructors, network with professionals in the industry, and participate in educational study trips and festivals around the US.
X2 is designed to supplement training with a dance school of choice. The company meets on Sundays, offering a weekly master class to train with professional dancers, followed by rehearsals and/or seminars. X2 members pay an annual membership fee with a 10-month contract. The first semester of the contract focuses on building a unique contemporary dance concert to be presented mid-December. The second semester of the contract is project-based, where rehearsals are called upon availability and as performance opportunities occur.
X2 seeks to educate and assist students working toward a professional career in dance. Exposure to concert dance helps to bridge the gap between high school and college programs and/or professional careers. Dancers benefit from exposure to a variety of training and performance opportunities as well as gaining experience working with a non-profit organization. We are interested in training these young dancers to become mature, working artists.
